personality
On the outside Cassian is a quiet, serious sort of man who follows the orders he's given, no matter what his feelings on the subject may be. Good luck, in fact, finding an inkling or suggestion that his orders and his personal feelings don't align. It's a survival tactic, much like being able to convince people to trust him with information that might get them both killed. Being a spy during an intergalactic civil war means you keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Hopefully with them being blissfully unaware that you're the enemy in the first place.

The Rebellion has been his primary motivator for years, and to that point Cassian is a selfless individual. He doesn't do what he believes is right for himself, he does what he believes is best to further the Rebellion's cause, namely toppling the Empire. Unfortunately that selflessness combined with the realities of what he does for the Rebellion leads to a compartmentalizing, a distancing from his actions. The gulf between Cassian's personal moral core and what he has been ordered to do has grown wide, but he manages to traverse it with a calm that does not betray his inner turmoil. That calm is not necessarily a façade, but a part of the way he's creating measured distance between himself and the things he must do.

Cassian is neither an optimist or a pessimist, but a realist; he has all the hope of the Resistance succeeding but he also recognizes that a lot of people will get hurt for that to be accomplished. Recognizes that he might well be one of those people who dies. Continues on doing what he knows he must anyway. Cassian knows what has to be done to survive, because he's done it before. He's lied and killed and recruited for the Resistance almost all his life; he admits he's been a part of the Resistance since he was six years old, and being a captain in the intelligence division is no calm walk in the park. There's little point, in his opinion, in being unwavering in the face of what's necessary. Yet what is necessary and what helps one sleep at night are not always one in the same, and these differences have fractured Cassian internally.

Again, that compartmentalizing comes into play, and there aren't many situations in which he would admit unease at what he's done, and if it was worth it; there's a war going on, and there isn't much time for that kind of talk. In fact, the one situation in which he does confess to unease at his personal history of being an assassin and spy? Comes when the Resistance stalls at the idea of turning over in defeat or attempting to collect the schematics and plans for the Death Star in the hopes of destroying it before it destroys them. Cassian feels torn, because he cannot justify the blood on his hands if the Rebellion intends to just give up. Unlikely to happen again, and Cassian is just as unlikely to seek out therapy or whatever it is people who aren't traumatized by war and lacking emotional outputs do.

Cassian does not make friends easily, in part because he's a paranoid sort after living the life he has. People connected to the Resistance, or to resistance-type activities in their own worlds that parallel the struggles he's familiar with are most likely to be deemed 'safe'. They're more likely to see less of the outwardly stoic Captain and more of the quippy, intelligent man underneath with a philosophical twist; anyone else has at least a little while to go before then. However, when he does make friends, his selfless streak comes through a mile wide. Cassian puts the needs of the many before the needs of the one and this translates to his interpersonal relationships as well.
history
Cassian Jeron Andor was a human male who was born on the planet Fest in 26 BBY to a human father and unknown mother. During the Clone Wars, Andor joined an insurrectionist cell backed by the Confederacy of Independent Systems that operated in the wilds of the Outer Rim Territories and fought against the Galactic Republic. Andor saw his first combat experience in this cell as a child soldier in 20 BBY by tossing rocks and bottles at Republic walkers and clone troopers. Sometime during his life Andor's father was killed at the Carida Academy during a protest against the expansion of Republic militarism.

Prior to 0 BBY, Andor joined the Alliance to Restore the Republic after being recruited by General Davits Draven. Holding the rank of Captain, Andor served as an officer in the Alliance's Intelligence branch.

A veteran spy of the Rebellion, Andor maintained a network of contacts throughout the galaxy who kept him informed about the activities of the Galactic Empire. Sometime during his career, Andor encountered the Imperial security droid K-2SO and reprogrammed him to serve the Alliance.

Andor was stationed at the Rebel base on Yavin 4 when Jyn Erso was assigned by Mon Mothma, a leader of the Rebel Alliance, to take part in what became the theft of the Death Star plans. During the mission, Andor was assigned to keep an eye on Erso due to her reckless and potentially volatile nature and was given a secret mission to kill Galen Erso in an attempt to stop the development of the Death Star.

Once he, Jyn, and K-2SO landed on Jedha, he and Jyn left to find Saw Gerrera and his rebels. Going to his various sources, the two got stuck in the middle of a battle between the Imperials and Saw's rebels, the Partisans, during which he takes out a man from the group in an attempt to save Jyn. As the fight continued, the two escape and run into K-2SO. The two are then mistaken for his prisoners and are detained but are saved by Chirrut Îmwe and Baze Malbus, only to be captured by Saw's forces for killing one of their own. While imprisoned, he found the Imperial pilot, Bodhi, and asked him of the location of Jyn's father. Shortly afterwards, the destruction of Jedha City caused the Partisans to flee, letting him escape with Chirrut, Baze, Bodhi, and Jyn.

The group arrived on Eadu, where they crashed attempting to avoid Imperial detection. Cassian and Bodhi left so that he could get in position to take out Galen and then had Bodhi leave to find a ship to escape with. He then watched a meeting between Galen and Director Orson Krennic, where he had several attempts to take him out but refused. However a strike force from the Rebellion came and attacked the facility, killing Galen in the process. He then went and rescued Jyn and the group leaves on a stolen Zeta-class cargo shuttle to Yavin 4.

Jyn tried to convince the alliance to attack Scarif in order to retrieve the plans to the Death Star, but it failed. Knowing this would happen, however, Cassian assembled a squad of Rebel assassins, mercenaries, and soldiers to fight on Scarif and retrieve the plans. Together, they all took the stolen Imperial shuttle and left for Scarif. At landing, Jyn and Cassian took the uniforms of two Imperial men and snuck into the base. They reached the area where the plans were kept, while a battle occurred outside as a distraction. During the attempt, K-2SO sacrificed himself by locking them in the facility to avoid their deaths by Stormtroopers. The two of them then broke out and stole the plans, only to be met by Krennic and his death troopers, where they fought and Cassian was knocked unconscious. He later saved Jyn from Krennic by blasting him. He and Jyn beamed the plans to the fleet and went to the beach, where they watched as the Death Star destroyed the base, killing them and the other rebels in the area.

Canon: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Canon Point: post-film

In-Game Tattoo Placement: Inner Left Bicep (reference)

Age: ~26
Species: Human

History: Here.

Personality: On the outside, Cassian is a quiet, serious sort of man who follows the orders he's given, no matter what his feelings on the subject may be. Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping: Cassian is a human without superpowers but I will list his various skills as if he were a D&D character below.

Brawl - unarmed combat
Firearms - identifying, using, and maintaining firearms
Larceny - picking locks, burglary, bypassing security, sleight of hand, etc
Stealth - moving silently and unnoticed
Survival - enduring harsh environments
Weaponry - identifying, using, and maintaining non-firearm weapons
Drive/Piloting - manning terrain vehicles, flying spacecraft

Computer - computer programs and operating systems
Investigation - solving riddles and finding evidence

Persuasion - convincing others and inspiring their emotions
Socialize - social interaction in various situations
Streetwise - navigating urban streets and gathering intel there
Subterfuge - deceiving others and noticing when they are deceiving him

He's in very good shape and physically fit, plus is an intelligent spy and assassin who can hold his own in a fight or firefight. Also, he can cook! Since he doesn't have any powers really there's nothing to weaken or warp.
Inventory: An A280-CFE blaster. He'll have his Alliance Captain's uniform including boots.
Also he has a security kit hidden in his boot.
He's also got his field jacket & gloves with the furry collar and the hidden suicide pill. Fun times, the life of Cassian Andor.

    CHARACTER

    NAME: Cassian Jeron Andor
CANON: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
CANON-POINT: The beach on Scarif, post death.

    DOSSIER

    HISTORY: have a wiki

WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S STRENGTHS?: COMPARTMENTALIZATION - Cassian is very good at setting aside his own feelings in favor of what must be done. He is also good at big picture thinking; combat tactics; observing others; and GATHERING INFORMATION. He's pretty good at following orders, if he believes in what those who are giving the orders believe in. He is also skilled at reading people, and understands his own limitations.

WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S WEAKNESSES?: He is SELFLESS in that he spent a good chunk of his life doing things he's not proud of in order for the Resistance to succeed in overthrowing the Empire. Like lying to people. Killing people. Leaving people behind. In fact, his entire past as a member of the Resistance's Intelligence forces could be circled in red under the heading 'weakness'.

WHAT EVENTS OR CIRCUMSTANCES IN YOUR CHARACTER'S PAST HAVE IMPACTED THEM THE MOST?: The death of his parents (thanks, canon, for not giving us more details on that), the circumstances of the Resistance versus the Empire in the first place and growing up in the midst of that civil war, becoming a member of the resisting faction at the grand old age of 6, and spending his life from that point onward, more or less, lying, gathering information, and killing for the Resistance.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOUR CHARACTER?: An intense dislike for fascist leaning governments, the belief that insurmountable odds can be shifted in the favor of the losing party, the hope that he will somehow manage to atone for all he's done (for all the "right" reasons, but still).

WHAT IMPRESSION DO OTHERS TEND TO HAVE OF YOUR CHARACTER?: Stoic, calm in the face of great threat and terrible odds, good at following orders, capable, loyal, generally unfazed by bullshit.

IN WHAT WAYS DOES THAT IMPRESSION DIFFER FROM WHO YOUR CHARACTER REALLY IS?: Cassian has a LOT OF GUILT - survivor's guilt, for one, but also guilt for having a hand, directly and indirectly, in the deaths of so many people. The gulf between Cassian's personal moral core and what he has been ordered to do has grown wide, but he manages to traverse it with a calm that does not betray his inner turmoil. That calm is not necessarily a façade, but a part of the way he's creating measured distance between himself and the things he must do. Plus in general he kind of doesn't like himself anymore.

HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER HANDLE CRISIS OR ADVERSITY?: ORGANIZE! RESIST! Glare at it, really. Ideally without getting anyone arrested or killed. He has a pretty firm sense of right and wrong, and prioritizes the safety of others above himself but isn't likely to run out on the front lines without having a lot of information first.

WHICH 5 THINGS WILL YOUR CHARACTER REMEMBER UPON ARRIVAL, AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THEM?: He was orphaned by the time he was 6.
He is a Captain, by rank.
He belongs to a crew called Rogue One.
His best friend's name is Kay.
There is a lot of blood on his hands.

I chose these 5 because they are all have great impact on who he is as a person and explain his life and general state of being in simple parts - childhood is overshadowed by losing his parents, his place in the world explained by belonging to a crew and having a rank, a personal connection in remembering Kay, and a place to put his general unease with himself in knowing that he's killed people.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU FEEL WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?: Dude's got PTSD like, there is no getting around that, HE SPEAKS SPANISH, and to sum up one Cassian Andor: he is selfless, flawed, a little situationally cynical, responsible, deliberate and focused, intrepid yet vigilant (how can you not be and be a spy?), and evasive (especially about personal things or anything that might jeopardize the Resistance). Also, compartmentalizing. Lots of that.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, & PHYSICAL WEAKNESSES: Cassian is a human without superpowers but I will list his various skills below.

    Brawl - unarmed combat
Firearms - identifying, using, and maintaining firearms
Larceny - picking locks, burglary, bypassing security, sleight of hand, etc
Stealth - moving silently and unnoticed
    Survival - enduring harsh environments
Weaponry - identifying, using, and maintaining non-firearm weapons
Drive/Piloting - manning terrain vehicles, flying spacecraft,

Computer - computer programs and operating systems
Investigation - solving riddles and finding evidence

Persuasion - convincing others and inspiring their emotions
Socialize - social interaction in various situations
Streetwise - navigating urban streets and gathering intel there
Subterfuge - deceiving others and noticing when they are deceiving him

He's in very good shape and physically fit, plus is an intelligent spy and assassin who can hold his own in a fight or firefight. Also he can cook!

INVENTORY: Since Cassian is coming in with an Imperial uniform pretty much in tatters, his clothes are going to be useless and probably not worth recovering. He did come in armed with an A280-CFE blaster, so that will be amongst his things. Also he has a security kit hidden in his boot.

One thing he wouldn't have on him that I would like him to obtain again is his field jacket & gloves with the furry collar and the hidden suicide pill. Fun times, the life of Cassian Andor.

    SAMPLES

    PROSE-HEAVY: sample 1
    DIALOGUE-HEAVY: sample 2

    Revisions:
    Personality Weakness:
That being selfless + kind of hating himself as a result of the terrible things he's personally done to further the needs of the Resistance? Equals more than a little self-loathing, and a dash of suicidal ideation hinted in canon (the book, not the movie). SO? What does that mean, really? Where's the weakness?

It means that Cassian puts the needs of the many above his own needs. Above his own health, mental and physical, above his own morality, above his convictions about what is right and wrong. Selfishness is essential to mental health, really - at a certain point most people have to step back and say 'I need to take care of me before I can keep [fighting this fight] 24/7' or they experience severe burn-out - and to thriving in any environment, much less a civil war.

Yet Cassian is lacking selfishness to the point that his own health and well-being is risked by it.

He has lied to people. He has killed people. And he has done it in the name of the 'greater good' and while none of these things sit well with him, he continues on up until the point of the movie (wherein he doesn't, actually, stop working towards the goals of the greater good in favor of taking care of himself at all). He sees himself as expendable to the big picture, which is definitely not untrue given his canon but it's not...the healthiest way a person can view themselves.

So, to sum: he is selfless to the point of near suicidal behaviors, or at the very least, engaging in activities that are not the best for his personal physical and mental health, all because: you guessed it! THE GREATER GOOD. If it'll help others, save others, he'll do it, even if it costs him everything. Literally.

Why people view him the way they do:
Above I stated that people see Cassian as "Stoic, calm in the face of great threat and terrible odds, good at following orders, capable, loyal, generally unfazed by bullshit" and naturally, forgot to say WHY. Whoops. The thing with this presentation of self that Cassian gives others is that it is just as fabricated as any false identity he's used in his life. There is nothing, in his mind, to be gained by not seeming stoic, unphased, unquestioning in his loyalty to the Resistance. It won't help the Resistance, that's for sure, and if it doesn't help the Resistance then what's he doing it for? His own personality fits fairly well into this perceived personality as well, because he IS loyal to an extreme fault above all else. So he doesn't...allow his questioning and truth-seeking nature, or the fact that he is often unsettled by the things he's ordered to do, to overrun the need to be a pillar of the Resistance. He allows himself to be defined by the role his position within the Resistance and what he's done to get there instead of...letting himself be a person with flaws in front of other people.

    Physical Weaknesses:
Still can't believe I forgot an ENTIRE APP SECTION wtg Era.

    Anyway.

Cassian is baseline human. No superpowers, no healing comas, none of that. In canon he gets SHOT, falls several storeys, doesn't die (immediately), and climbs back up those several storeys in order to drag his near-dead self around to see the mission through. In essence he is his own worst enemy when it comes to his physical health because he'll ignore it (for: THE GREATER GOOD yes we get it thank you) if it is in the way of what he feels he must do, needs to do. Like, the man is good shape. But he hasn't been the kindest to himself and probably will continue...not being the kindest to himself.

Please. Someone. Make him take a seat. Or several. (Especially if he's been shot.)

    ☆ CHARACTER INFORMATION
    NAME: Captain Cassian Jeron Andor
CANON: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
    AGE: ~26
CANON POINT: End of film, essentially.
BACKGROUND: All about the movie :: here there be spoilers

    PERSONALITY:

    Compartmentalize, compartmentalize, compartmentalize.

Cassian puts the needs of the many before the needs of the one (to conflate my Star themed canons) and this translates to his interpersonal relationships as well.

SO, to sum up one Cassian Andor: selfless, flawed, a little situationally cynical, responsible, deliberate and focused, intrepid yet vigilant (how can you not be and be a spy?), and evasive (especially about personal things or anything that might jeopardize the Resistance). Also, compartmentalizing. Lots of that.

The ship settled and echoed in the emptiness of space; quiet, barely-there knocking sounds of subtle pressure changes against metal, against flesh and bone. Louder in his ears was his own heartbeat - bahthump, bahthump, bahthump - and Cassian shut his eyes against the sound in order to try and get some sleep.

Slow, even breaths. Cataloguing every major bone in the body from his toes to the top of his skull in order to try and run his mind down from it's incessant turning in the quiet dark.

It didn't work, just as it hadn't worked the night before, or the night before that, stretching back to when he'd woken up in the medical bay on Eluvio. He pressed the heels of his palms against his closed eyes, rubbed them until he saw spots and then swung his legs over the bunk and onto the floor.

Cassian put his head in his hands. He hated being here, really. It felt like such a slap in the face, to be snatched away from death just to wake up in some unknown corner of the galaxy, alone, knowing there was nothing to return to. There were no familiar faces, no real explanations, no understanding of how he'd gotten here or what it would take to return. And did he want to? Yes...and no. There was no future to be had in those last few seconds, yet everyone, everything he knew was there.

Jyn was there. Bodhi, Chirrut and Baze were there. The men and women he'd convinced to join he and Jyn on this suicide mission were there. They were all back on Scarif, and they were dead and here he was, alive but trapped in those last few seconds.

This all felt like a dream or some figment of a mind gone horribly fractured.

    It didn't feel real.

Cassian was filled with a flash of anger but it fizzled out as soon as it started. There was no point railing against the universe itself - I'm one with the Force; the Force is with me - and with a sigh he brought himself to his feet. Stretched. He may as well do something productive, like shower, or read, or make tea.

Sleep, it seemed, was too much to hope for still. Like answers from the universe, or a familiar face in his new afterlife.

A small flashing light from his communicator brought the device to his attention and he turned it over in his hands, considering the patient cursor flashing on the screen.

    From: Capt Cassian Andor
    To: All

What waits for you, back where you came from?

You can be as specific or nonspecific as you like, really. A person, a place, a thing, a concept. A belief. A dream.

    Nothing.

    I'm just curious, I guess.

There. That would, at least, entertain for a while plus give him a sense of what other people were here...and just how many of them couldn't sleep either.
