Wet towels in bed are an abomination under the stars, so Cassian understands. As it is he holds up one end of the blankets so she can curl in as much as she likes. For the most part he just wants to be near her, as always, but he also has the underlying drive towards contact. Usually he's fine being more passive about it, letting her dictate what sort of touch and what happens where.
Now, though. She calls her declaration of love 'it', and Cassian wraps his arms around her, pulling her in close.
You know, she is perfectly happy to go with the flow for once, chin resting against his chest so she can look at him. "And if you wanted to never stop saying your bit, I would be quite fine with that."
Jyn Erso's Guide to: asking your boyfriend to say he loves you again without asking your boyfriend to say he loves you again. She's about as terrible at romance as you'd imagine her father would be.
Cassian tilts his neck and head down in order to kiss her on the forehead, her nose, her lips. Chest warm where Jyn is pressed against him and it's if his body can't decide between aroused or comfortable and so heads toward this middle stage where his limbs tangle with hers instead.
To that point, he captures one of her legs between his own.
"I love you, Jyn Erso." She drives him a little crazy and steals his food, but he loves her, and isn't that something? He'd imagined that he would die without knowing what that really felt like.
She would apologize because he really got the short straw in this relationship, honestly. She's a terrible, selfish person, reckless and thoughtless, and her abandonment issues have their own abandonment issues. Maybe he was hit on the head one too many times. But Jyn is selfish enough that she will never remind him that he deserves far better than her.
Instead she curls against him, fingers tracing across the muscles of his chest, unmarked skin and scarring both, exploring rarely mapped skin like she's the first bold explorer to plant her flag and claim Cassian as her own. Is she? She doesn't ask.
She is not the first to touch but she is the first to touch and know his name, what he does, the first to have a glimpse into who he really is and how he came to be that way. She is the first he hasn't been lying to, on one level or another, and that is very important to him.
Perhaps he deserves better but he doesn't think his actions in his lifetime warrant that kind of thinking. Plus there's this one little detail: he's happy. Jyn Erso stirs happiness from the depths of a person who wasn't sure they were deserving of such a thing.
Still, he shudders a little under her touch but makes no move to stop her. That would be the opposite of what he wants, anyway.
"Te amo. I love you and I'm not letting go of that for anything."
"Elskede," she breathes, drawing the endearment out to make it sound like a complaint, flush turning her cheeks pink even though she asked for exactly this. Her hand flattens again his chest briefly, feeling warm all over, but after a moment of pause she continues her exploration.
Her forehead wrinkles when she encounters a particularly pronounced scar. "What happened here?"
He laughs, a little, at the endearment. 'Friend' indeed; but her blush is rather attractive and he watches that color spread across her skin and feels more than a little proud of that.
One arm stays wrapped around her, finger drawing circles against the skin on her back, while the other tucks under his head.
"Stabbed." A sigh. "In my sleep. Not a pleasant experience. It was before Kay was around."
She frowns. Intellectually, she knows that his life has been just as dangerous as hers, more so even, but his scars are so much worse than hers and it pains her that she can't do anything to erase those scars. Leaning over, she presses a kiss against the scar, breath warm and heavy against his skin. A trail of full, lingering kisses across his chest brings her back to settle in her original position. She looks up at him under her lashes, pressing one last kiss against his skin.
"Like so many Imperials he tried to kill me," Cassian says with a smile, but his eyes are a little wide, heart racing and pupils blown from her kisses. Shifting his hips a little he leans down and kisses the tip of her nose.
"I was stuck planetside for a week, without a lot to keep me occupied. I figured the worst I could do was completely fuck up the programming but gave it a shot anyway."
He shuts his eyes. "The first time I laughed he thought I was dying."
"Well, you may have fouled up some of the programming. His first calculation about me was wrong -- I wouldn't use the blaster on you, that would have been a waste of power when I could have just punched you out." She sounds fond, though, turning the way she's draped across him into a firm hug.
There's a laugh at that, and Cassian hugs her back, swallowing thickly. "There's a backup." Cassian isn't sure who was more paranoid about losing everything Kay was, the bot or himself. "Though he did promise to make my life miserable if I put him in a maintenance droid."
"I'm sure we can find another security droid that could do with a loving home." She is so unapposed to hollowing out another Imperial droid to pop K-2 inside, she will beat it up herself if she has to.
"I could find one if you'd like." She would be willing to be apart to bring his best friend back.
"Yeah, I promise." Her frown is concerned so she braces her cold toes against his calf and stretches up to kiss him hard and fast, steady and reassuring. She'd vetoed her going off on her own ages ago so she can't fault him for the same sentiment. "No solo missions.
He shudders, bringing his shoulders up towards his ears, but his expression has changed to a smile by the time she kisses him. "Thank you." Part of him feels bad - it's not that he doesn't believe her capable!
If something happened to her, however, and he was somewhere else? He probably wouldn't handle it very well.
"De nada," Jyn says with a dismissive wave of her hand, sinking back into her original spot and tangling herself up with him again. She's found a place here that she is more than content in, if Cassian is willing to wait, so is she.
Which is still new, her patience. But she also knows, however humbling and occasionally annoying the fact is, that she is a better doubles partner than she is a singles player. She still wants to fight the entire galaxy, but she wants to fight it with Cassian sighing in exasperation next to her.
There's a subtler ghost of a shudder this time, along his spine as she moves closer again, his nerves lighting up with each point of contact. Somewhere during the course of the conversation his mind had allowed himself to forget there wasn't much by way of clothing happening between them right now.
"Are you warm?" Is she going to attack him with her cold toes, he considers the moment after he asks her.
"I always have ideas," he admits softly, but there's no action behind it other than to curl in a little when her toes find his legs. How her feet are always so cold is a mystery to him, but he's fine capturing them between his calves in order to warm them up.
There's more he could say in that vein, he supposes, but at some point he'd decided that he would wait for her to take the first steps in that direction, be it tonight or tomorrow or months from now. Instead he presses his lips to her forehead.
"The kind of things that have kept people warm for centuries." He looks at her, holding her gaze. "The kind of things everyone assumes we're already up to."
"Do they?" She would have to talk to... anyone... to suss out any assumptions they may or may not have about the remaining two members of Rogue One so, of course, she has no idea they're even a topic of discussion.
Stretching up, she presses a kiss to his jaw, nosing again his ear and whispering: "I'd hate to disappoint them." She doesn't care about them at all, even one iota of care. Her teeth catch his earlobe, a playful little tug between her teeth before she soothes the spot with a lazy kiss.
It's Cassian's job to know these things, to pay attention to rumors and horde information like some mythical creature until he knows how best to use it to the Resistance's advantage. Also it's a strange and new thing, to be the center of chatter and speculation; usually he's too good at his job for that sort of thing.
Here, there's less action - just people healing and people moving information around. They have less to worry about, he supposes, and more to gossip about instead.
His eyes close and he tries to breathe regularly before giving up on that in light of her teeth on his skin. "I don't care about disappointing them," he murmurs, swallowing. The arm tucked beneath his head now stretches out and he shifts his weight a little so that she is more draped over him than alongside him. "Neither do you."
Her knee drags up his thigh, untangling from his legs enough that a quick shift of her hips has her perched on his lap, looking down at him with glassy eyes and a smile that looks like it's about to cause trouble.
Her mostly dry hair falls over one shoulder, strands brushing across his chest as she leans down. "True."
He lets out a sharp breath when she moves, eyes opening in time to see her smile. Dangerous, perhaps, but he is more intrigued than afraid, wanting than hesitant, even when her hair against his chest leaves him shuddering again.
Cassian reaches up and traces her lips with his forefinger. "I love you." In case she's forgotten in the last few minutes.

Her tone is obviously teasing; she is curled around her very own space heater, she is perfectly content under the blankets and wrapped up in Cassian.
